- In 2013, Baz Luhrmann adapted *The Great Gatsby* for the screen, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan. 
- F. Scott Fitzgerald had a hard time settling on a title for *The Great Gatsby*. Among the many titles he considered are *Among Ash Heaps and Millionaires, Trimalchio, The Gold-Hatted Gatsby, On the Road to West Egg*, and *Under the Red, White, and Blue*. 
- The first stage adaptation of *The Great Gatsby* was on Broadway in 1926, starring Florence Eldridge and James Rennie.

*Elektra* is a play by Sophocles that was likely written sometime between 420 BC and 414 BC, as it has similarities with *Philoctetes* (409 BC) and *Oedipus at Colonus* (406 BC). This new translation is by award-winning poet Anne Carson, who also translated Sophocles' *Antigone*. Carson has published over twenty books, and among the many awards she's earned include the T.S. Elliot Prize, the Governor General's Award for English-language poetry, and the Lannan Literary Award. 

*Elektra* in London boasts an exceptional creative team led by director Daniel Fish (*Oklahoma!*). Annie-B Parson (*Here Lies Love*) is the choreographer, Jeremy Herbert (*Hamlet*) is the scenic designer, Adam Silverman (*The Glass Menagerie*) is the lighting designer, Doey Lüthi (*over and over vorbeinicht vorbei*) is the costume designer, Max and Ben Ringham (*A Doll's House*) are the sound designers, and music is by Ted Hearne (*Place*).

## What to watch for

- Tales of Orestes' revenge were very popular in Greek tragedies; in fact, Euripides also wrote a play called *Electra*. 
- Some of the events of *Elektra* were also referenced in Homer's *Odyssey*. 
- Anne Carson has received both the MacArthur 'Genius' Grant and the Guggenheim Fellowship. 
- Max and Ben Ringham were nominated for an Olivier Award in 2023 for their work on *Prima Facie*.

For those considering driving, parking facilities can be found at the nearby Upper Ground Car Park. The theatre also provides excellent facilities for bicyclists, with several bicycle parking bays available around the building. Respecting the environment while attending the theatre is encouraged.

The Olivier Theatre takes its name from the first artistic director of the [National Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/national-theatre), Laurence Olivier. The auditorium was designed to resemble the theatre at Epidaurus in Greece, with the seating arranged in a fan-like fashion around a circular stage.

The Olivier Theatre is the largest of the three auditoriums at the National Theatre, completed by the [Lyttelton Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/lyttelton-theatre-national) and the [Dorfman Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/dorfman-theatre-national).

The stage itself is famous for its drum-revolve, effectively enabling the stage to split into two allowing scenic changes to take place underneath the stage and then be rotated into place within seconds.
